Donald Schumacher


      Donald B. Schumacher, 77, Cape Coral, Fla. and the Clark Lake area in Door County, Wis., died Friday, Oct.20, 2000, at Lee Memorial Hospital, Ft. Myers, Fla.
      He was born May 20,1923, in Manitowoc, Wis., the son of Godfrey and Caroline Huntley Schumacher.
      Donald graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1941.
      He married Audrey Kolar June 20, 1947, in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death Nov.11,1994.
      Donald was a veteran, serving in the Pacific in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, and being discharged in 1946 with the rank of sergeant.
      He worked for the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation from 1946 to 1986, where he retired as manager of the Kewaunee District.
      Donald was a devoted father and grandfather. His hobbies and lifelong activities included Ham radio (K9CPY), sailing, power boating and the following clubs: Saints and Sinners, Club 85, Cape Coral Sailing Club, Sons of the American Revolution and the Wisconsin Club.
      Survivors include two sons, Paul and Deborah Schumacher, Fredonia, Wis., and Gary and Mary Kay Schumacher, Lindstrom, Minn.; and five grandchildren, Stacy, Lisa, Carol, John and Andrew.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audrey, in 1994; and one brother, Robert, in 1987.
      Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct.26, at First Lutheran Church Chapel, Manitowoc, Rev. Steven Solberg officiating, with burial at the Tyler Cemetery, Township of Eaton, Manitowoc County.
      Relatives and fnends called at First Lutheran Church Chapel, 521 N. 8th St., Manitowoc, Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
      The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's memory to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
      The Jens Family Funeral Home, Manitowoc, assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
